#1 FULL MELT POOL IS KEY
The first time you burn your candle, let the wax melt all the way to the edges of the jar. This will usually take 3-4 hours and it is VERY IMPORTANT! If you do not let the wax melt to the edges during your first burn, you will have wax residue on the sides of your vessel for each subsequent burn. In the candle community, we call this "tunnelling" and it does not allow you to enjoy the candle in its entirety because it will continue burning down the middle :-(
#2 TRIM YOUR WICK
#3 RESPECT BOUNDARIES
After the first burn, only burn your candle for about 4 hours at a time. If you let it burn more than 4 hours at a time, you will shorten the life of your candle as the flame will become stronger and it will burn through quicker.
#4 KEEP AWAY FROM DRAFTS/PETS/CHILDREN
Keep your candle away from drafts and flammable materials. This one seems obvious but drafts and movement around your candle can cause black soot to build up on the inside of your vessel, not cute! Make sure to trim your wick to 1/4 an inch and keep your candle away from drafts.
#5 REUSE, REDUCE, RECYCLE!
Your candle is finished when there is only 1/2 inch of wax left at the bottom of your jar. Our wick holders have raised edges which prevent you from burning your candle past a certain point once you get to the bottom. This is because your jar will get very hot and become unsafe. Clean out your jar and reuse it as a planter, tumbler, or for storage! You can also freeze your jar and the bottom wax will pop out, you can use this for wax melts!
